Empty it properly
Glovebox, console, door pockets, boot, spare wheel well, under the seats. Cars that have sat for years hold documents, tools, spare keys and sometimes cash. Once it's on the truck it's gone for good.
Take the plates
They're yours, not the car's. The driver will help if you haven't got a screwdriver handy.
Have ID and paperwork out
Photo ID, and the title if you have one. Having it ready is the difference between a ten-minute pickup and a phone call back to the office.
Clear the way
Move whatever is parked in front of it, unlock the garage, open the gate. Tell us about narrow alleys and low clearances when you book rather than when the driver is outside.
Find the keys, or say you can't
No keys is completely fine. Knowing in advance just means the right equipment arrives.
Cancel the insurance afterwards, not before
Wait until the car is actually gone and paid for, then contact your insurer and the Secretary of State so you're not paying for a vehicle you no longer own.
