A public street is the city's problem
A vehicle abandoned on a public street is handled by the City of Chicago. Report it to 311 and let that process run. Don't arrange a private tow off public property.
Private property gives you more options and more responsibility
A car on your lot, in your garage or on your driveway is different. You generally can't just sell a vehicle that isn't yours, but there are legitimate routes for dealing with one that's been left behind.
Document it before anything else
Photograph the vehicle, the VIN, the plate and where it sits, with dates. Keep the lease, any notice you served, and any correspondence. This is what protects you afterwards.
Tell the buyer the truth on the first call
Say up front that the car isn't in your name. We'd far rather know at the start than have a driver find out at your gate. Being straight about it usually reveals a workable path; hiding it doesn't.
Don't be rushed
A buyer who'll take a vehicle you don't own with no paperwork at all is a risk to you, not a convenience.
